The self catering accommodation consists of: 3 bedroom log cabin is fully equipped for a comfortable, peaceful stay. Rooms are equipped with bedding and towels. The main bedroom is upstairs and furnished with a queen size bed. It has a separate dressing room/study area with en-suite bathroom with bath/shower, toilet and hand wash basin. From the bed you have a beautiful view over the river and mountains. The main bedroom extends onto a timber deck from where the beauty of the luscious vegetation of the Wilderness National Park can be appreciated. The second bedroom upstairs contains two comfortable single beds. The third bedroom is downstairs and contains a queen size bed with en-suite bathroom with bath, toilet and hand wash basin. The kitchen is fully equipped for six guests with crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, a fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and oven/stove - everything you'll need for a memorable self catering stay in Wilderness. The kitchen, living and dining area on the ground floor is of open plan design. It is equipped with a dining table and six chairs, two comfortable double seat leather couches and two additional loose seats. The Forge: A combination of wow factor, rustic country elegance and romantic charm, has made The Forge at Oakhurst a top retreat for anyone looking for a little peace and quiet. This 150 year old stone cottage was one of the first building to be built at Oakhurst and today is the main bedroom, with thick stone walls and exposed timber beams. The living area wraps around the cottage and is made up of a dining area, equipped kitchen with gas stove and cosy lounge area. The entire side of the building can be opened up, by way of canvas roller blinds to maximise the spectacular Wilderness forest views from here. Sleeps two in a double bed, with two extra kiddies beds on a mezzanine in the loft. A central log fireplace takes the chill away during the Wilderness winters. The open-air shower and bathroom offer the same breathtaking views onto the forest fringe. Our Farm Cottages have been a part of Oakhurst for the past 30 years. Kween's Kaya, Awies Attic, Lenies Lair, Hans's Hollow and Nick's Nook are set along the edge of a section of forest, intersected with a gurgling stream that flows during the rainy periods. Each cottage is privately positioned and fully set up for self-catering, with a well equipped kitchen and cosy living area with wooden floors. The living area in turn opens out onto a large wooden deck and braai area. The Schoolyard: The long school building houses three of these units, namely Landon's Loft, Holly's Hangout and Anna's Apartment. Oakhurst is a great place for the family, where children can play and parents can relax.

The bathroom offers a full bath, basin, toilet and shower. Throughout the year there are many activities in Wilderness one can pursue. With the site being very central to a host of activities. Paragliding one can land on the sand in front of the cottage after launching from a world renown spot, The Map of Africa, which is from the hill behind the cottage. Kitesurfing ,surfing and fishing are literally 10 metres away and you are on the beach. During the whaling season whales frequent the seas around the Wilderness area and can often be found just off the beach in front of the cottage.

Wilderness, George

Wilderness is a beautiful town nestled between thickly forested hills and cliffs on the one side and a system of spectacular waterways, lakes, and lagoons along the coast. In the centre of the Wilderness National Park there is a rest camp that hires out paddleboats, row-boats, and canoes. At the camp a shop is available.

The town itself is situated at the mouth of the Touws River, where hippo's once used to play in the mud-holes. Wilderness is a very popular holiday resort and caters for every kind of tourist.

Hikers wont be disappointed by the 10-kilometer(6 mile) Pied Kingfisher trail which covers the river, marshes and lagoon. While hiking you will be able to see five of the ten kingfisher species of South Africa. For the bird-watchers there are two hides available in Upper-Langvlei and Rondevlei, which are located in the wilderness wetland marshes and draws birds from all over the country.

The wilderness lakes provide excellent opportunities for watersports like swimming, sailing, and waterskiing. Canoeists can explore the lagoon and channels. Surfers will enjoy the excellent waves and fishermen wont be disappointed by the ample fishing opportunities.

Over the years Wilderness has become a popular honeymoon destination. According to legend when George Bennet of Cape Town wanted to get married, his bride said yes on the condition that they live in Wilderness. How it works for accommodation-seekers:

Anyone can register as a $elect Stays member.
There are no costs involved to register as a member.
On registration, we issue them with a member number.
They use their member number when they send an enquiry.
The number is verified automatically BEFORE the enquiry is sent.
The property is notified on the enquiry that they are a verified member.
Property ensures that the quote includes a 15% saving.

Terms & Conditions

  1. The property (you) must offer the 15% saving to all verified members
  2. Verification is done automatically at the time of an enquiry. It is at the property’s discretion whether to offer the saving for a telephonic enquiry. (As you have no means to verify the membership number, it is advisable to get them to do a formal enquiry so they can be verified).
  3. If the property is currently running a "Special" greater than 15% then the "Special" price will apply. (No further savings needs to be offered). EXCEPT in the case where the "Special" is lower than 15%. In that case the 15% will apply.
    Example: A property offering a 10% discount, must offer an additional 5% discount to valid members - so they get a total 15% saving.
  4. The property must offer valid members the saving all year round. (Properties that pick and chose in which seasons to participate run the risk of being removed from the programme completely. Allowing selective participation defeats the integrity of this initiative).
  5. The property must not inflate the price before the 15% is applied. Prices displayed should be the rack rate. (The official or advertised price of a room).
  6. The property must honour any bookings made while the property was participating as a $elect Stays property.
  7. The property must honour the agreement and the spirit in which the initiative is designed to benefit local tourism.
