Franskraal is a stunning beachfront village in the Overberg area in the Western Cape. Franskraal is approximately two and a half hours away from Cape Town itself which makes it a convenient getaway. The coastline offers spectacular, uninterrupted seaviews. What more could you ask for?
Attractions:
One of the great attractions in the area is the milkwood forest which attracts locals and visitors from all around the country. The ‘Groot Melkhout Trail’ is open to the public and is a very interesting and beautiful 2km circular trail surrounded by nature. Another attraction is the Strandveld Museum which is situated at the cliffs of Franskraal. This privately owned museum has a large collection of relics and history of the Gansbaai area and of a shipwreck at Danger Point. The Fees van die Ganse is a very popular annual festival held in the Gansbaai nearby. The festival celebrates and remembers the origins of the town. The weekend is a funfilled family day. There is plenty to see and do.
Franskraal, located in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, offers visitors a variety of activities and sights.
Here are three recommendations:
1. Grootbos Nature Reserve: Just a short drive from Franskraal, Grootbos Nature Reserve is known for its spectacular biodiversity, offering guided tours through its ancient Milkwood forests, fynbos, and coastal ecosystems. Visitors can enjoy activities such as nature walks, horseback riding, and whale watching.
2. Kleinbaai Harbour: Located near Franskraal, Kleinbaai Harbour is the launch point for shark cage diving adventures. The area is famous for its Great White Shark population, and several operators offer thrilling cage diving experiences, giving visitors the chance to see these magnificent creatures up close in their natural habitat.
3. Dyer Island and Whale Watching: Take a boat tour from Gansbaai, which is close to Franskraal, to visit Dyer Island. This island is a protected bird sanctuary and is home to a large colony of African Penguins and various seabirds. Additionally, the waters around Dyer Island are renowned for whale watching, particularly during the winter and spring months when Southern Right Whales migrate to the area.

Terms & Conditions
- The property (you) must offer the 15% saving to all verified members
- Verification is done automatically at the time of an enquiry. It is at the property’s discretion whether to offer the saving for a telephonic enquiry. (As you have no means to verify the membership number, it is advisable to get them to do a formal enquiry so they can be verified).
- If the property is currently running a "Special" greater than 15% then the "Special" price will apply. (No further savings needs to be offered). EXCEPT in the case where the "Special" is lower than 15%. In that case the 15% will apply.
Example: A property offering a 10% discount, must offer an additional 5% discount to valid members - so they get a total 15% saving. - The property must offer valid members the saving all year round. (Properties that pick and chose in which seasons to participate run the risk of being removed from the programme completely. Allowing selective participation defeats the integrity of this initiative).
- The property must not inflate the price before the 15% is applied. Prices displayed should be the rack rate. (The official or advertised price of a room).
- The property must honour any bookings made while the property was participating as a $elect Stays property.
- The property must honour the agreement and the spirit in which the initiative is designed to benefit local tourism.
